On Thursday, December 7th, the Mighty Oaks traveled to Bergen Community College. Salem took control in the first half, ending it with a 14-2 run, leading with a score of 35-20.
Bergen battled back, and with 2:30 left in the second half, they went for a 20-4 run to make the score 58-63. Bergen hit a big three to bring the game within two points leaving 63-61 lead with 1:45 remaining in the game.
Lamar Woody made a few clutch free throws, taking the game to 66-63 with 18.6 seconds left. Bergen answered back cutting the deficit to 66-65, with 5.6 seconds remaining.
Austin Smith came up clutch for The Mighty Oaks, making two insurance free throws, resulting in a 68-65 victory for Salem.
Robert Whitaker led all five Mighty Oaks starters with 28 points. Nick Nararro led the Bulldogs with 25 points.
With the victory, Salem is now 2-8 in the Garden State Athletic Conference, and 2-10 overall. Bergen drops to 0-7 in the Garden State Athletic Conference, and 1-11 overall.
The Mighty Oaks are in action again Saturday, December 14th at Sussex County Community College. Tipoff is at 12:00 PM.
