Carneys Point, NJ. – The Salem Community College baseball team split the Saturday doubleheader (March 5) against Ocean County College, taking game one 11-2, and dropping the second game 3-2.
Game 1
The Mighty Oaks offense jumped out early, led by Andre Claudio who went 2 for 3 on the day with a double and a triple with three runs scored. Phil Sedalis, Jacob Roberts and Nick Davis also contributed to the Mighty Oaks offense. Sedalis went 3 for 4, driving in 4 runs while Davis went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Dipper went 3 for 3 on the day.
Winning pitcher Joe Davis went four solid innings allowing no earned runs, striking out six and walking two.
Game 2
In the second game the Salem offense did not quite get going, with only four hits in the game. Sedalis went 2 for 3 on the game, and Ryan Dipper and Dante Claudio registering the only other hits. On the mound Ray Knappenberger took the loss, but pitched a strong game, going five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out four. Sean Broadhurst and Jacob Todd each contributed a shut out inning apiece.
The Mighty Oaks move to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in Region 19 play. Up next the Mighty Oaks will travel to South Carolina where they will play a series of games at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
