Mighty Oaks Handed First Home Loss

Salem hosted the Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester Roadrunners today, April 23, at the Carneys Point Recreation Complex. The Mighty Oaks received their first loss at home after falling to the Roadrunners, 13-0.

The last time the two teams met was back on March 10, when the Mighty Oaks opened their season on the road at RCSJ-Gloucester. Salem beat the Roadrunners in that game, 9-5.

Gloucester started the game by scoring four runs on a grand slam in the first inning, taking control of the game and never letting up. The Mighty Oaks were unable to muster a hit off a trio of Roadrunners pitchers, with the Roadrunners walking off with a 13-0 victory in a run rule-shortened game.

Pat Montagna (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville Memorial High School) was the starter and loser for the Oaks, surrendering five runs in his five innings of work. Gloucester erupted for eight runs on only four hits in the seventh after a scoreless sixth inning from Salem's Sean Broadhurst, (Town/School).

The Mighty Oaks get right back in action tomorrow, April 24, when they travel to North Jersey to take on Union County College in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
