Mighty Oaks Get Third Straight Win Against Camden

Mighty Oaks Get Third Straight Win Against Camden

Salem, due to a rain postponement of last Saturday's doubleheader, has now played, and won, three straight games against the Camden County College Cougars. Today, the Mighty Oaks returned home where they earned their sixth win of the season after beating out the Cougars, 5-4.

Salem was the first on the board after baserunners Tucker Dorrity (Ocala, Fl / Fayette County HS) and Drew Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) capitalized off of a wild pitch to advance to second and third, respectively, and Ahmad Edwards grounded out to second allowing Tongue to cross the plate for the first run of the game. Camden answered back in the top of the fourth with four runs, taking a 4-1 lead over the Mighty Oaks. Salem went on to score four uncontested runs to ensure victory, two in fourth and two in the fifth. The two runs in the fourth inning came as a result of runners, Ryan Dipper (Woodbury Heights, NJ / Gateway HS) and Jacob Todd (Claxton, GA / Pinewood Christian Academy), being moved into scoring position off of another wild pitch and being driven in by Nick Davis (Middletown, DE / Appoquinimink HS), who doubled. Phil Sedalis (Wenonah, NJ / Deptford Township HS) in the bottom of the fifth doubled bringing Nick Toms (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville HS) and Drew Tongue in for the tying and game winning runs.

Trey Matthews (Newark, DE / Newark Charter School) started on the mound for the Mighty Oaks and pitched through five innings striking out eight batters and allowing four hits in route to his first collegiate win. Patrick Montagna (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville Memorial High School) was awarded a save after relieving Matthews at the start of the sixth inning and holding Camden in check to secure the 5-4 win. Montagna allowed only two hits and struck out five batters in his four innings on the mound, bringing the Mighty Oaks to 13 total strikeouts on the day.

The Mighty Oaks will next be action Saturday, April 17, when they travel to Raritan Valley Community College to take on the Lions for a doubleheader starting at noon.
