Mighty Oaks Fall to No. 3 RCSJ Dukes in Doubleheader

Salem traveled to Vineland, NJ today for a doubleheader against the No. 3 Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) Cumberland Dukes. The Mighty Oaks narrowly lost to the Dukes in game one, 11-8, and dropped game two to RCSJ Cumberland, 10-2.

Game one saw five lead changes and a combined four homeruns. The Mighty Oaks trailed early as the Dukes took a two run lead in the first inning, but immediately answered back in the top of the second inning with a three-run homerun by Ahmad Edwards (Metter, GA / Tattnall HS). Jacob Todd (Claxton, GA / Pinewood Christian Academy) stood out in this game with a solo homerun in the third inning and a two run double in the fourth to put Salem ahead of the Dukes once again, 8-7. The Dukes responded with four runs over the next three innings to close out the Mighty Oaks, 11-8. Ryan Dipper (Woodbury Heights, NJ / Gateway HS) took the loss for the Mighty Oaks on the mound pitching in relief of starter Justin Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS).

Cumberland also took game two by a score of 10-2. Salem's two runs came off a Tucker Dorrity (Ocala, Fl / Fayette County HS) single in the second inning that brought in Dakota Rowen (Venice, FL / McIntosh HS) and a Drew Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) single that drove in Paul Kimmer (Pittsgrove, NJ / Schalick HS) in the sixth inning. Starter Nick Toms (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville HS) took the loss for the Mighty Oaks in game two.

The Mighty Oaks will next be action Saturday, March 20, when they return home for the first time in 2021 for a doubleheader against Mercer County Community College starting at noon.
