Mighty Oaks Defeat Camden in Seven Innings

Salem returned home today for the second time on the season to host the Camden County College Cougars. The Mighty Oaks picked up their fourth win of the season by thumping the Cougars, 18-6, after Mighty Oaks took a 12 run lead in the seventh inning.

Salem started the game off with three runs in the first, capitalizing on three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Jacob Roberts (Hilton Head, SC / Hilton Head HS) had the lone hit in the first inning that brought in Ted Moos (Berlin, NJ / Eastern HS) to give the Mighty Oaks a 3-0 lead. In the third, the Mighty Oaks extended their lead to 8-0 with a five-run outburst. Drew Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) brought in Jacob Todd (Claxton, GA / Pinewood Christian Academy) and Phil Sedalis (Wenonah, NJ / Deptford Township HS)  with a single and Ahmad Edwards (Metter, GA / Tattnall HS) and Nick Toms (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville HS) followed with singles to drive in one apiece. Camden put six runs on the board in the final four innings, but the Mighty Oaks tacked on another 10 runs, ultimately forcing a mercy rule (when a team is leading by 10 or more runs at the end of seven at bats in a nine inning game). Phil Sedalis (Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway HS) crushed his third homer of the season, driving in Caleb Ritchie (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford Township HS) in the fifth. Justin Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) started the game for the Mighty Oaks and earned his first collegiate win after pitching five innings allowing five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Frank Kopaczewski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown HS) pitched the final two for the Mighty Oaks.

The Mighty Oaks will next be action tomorrow, April 7, at 3PM when they travel to Camden County College to complete the two game series with the Cougars.
