Salem Community College Taps Gene Shepherd For Head Women’s Soccer Coach

Carneys Point, NJ – Gene Shepherd has been named the new head coach of the Salem Community College women's soccer program by Director of Athletics Dr. Bob Bunnell.

"We are delighted to welcome Gene to our coaching staff. He brings with him an impressive list of credentials, from outstanding collegiate and professional playing experience, to several earned coaching licenses, to his current activity as Coach and Head Trainer of Sound Soccer Training."

Coach Shepherd comes to Salem from an extensive professional soccer career and trainer. Shepherd played professional in various levels starting in 2013 and continueing today. As a trainer, coach has worked with various organizations such as Liverpool FC's South Jersey chapter, CREAD soccer training, the Woodstown Soccer Club as well as serving as Technical Director for Arsenal FC Develpoment. Summer Camps. Coach is the owner and head trainer of Sound Soccer Training.

"My ultimate goal is to develop my players as soccer players and as people," said Coach Shepherd "sending them off to their next endeavor prepared and confident".

Gene began his collegiate coaching career at Rowan College of South Jersey Cumberland campus as an assistant with the program. The Woodstown resident looked to return home and take on building the women's program at SCC.

"I am thrilled to join Salem and have the opportunity to build a women's program from the ground up" added Shepherd. "After meeting with everyone in the athletic department, I can tell we share the common goal of progressing these students athletically and academically".

Shepherd currently holds US National Soccer Licenses D and C as well as US Futsal Level 1 and 2 certifications.

"We are confident that Gene will be able to build our women's program, and join our men's program in challenging our Region 19 opponents for championships."
