Mighty Oaks Women’s Basketball Tops RCSJ-Cumberland

Vineland, NJ. – The Salem Community College women's basketball season opened the 2023-24 season with a 69-50 win over Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland.  The win marks the first women's basketball competition since the reinstatement of athletics in 2019 and the first victory for the program since 2014.

The Mighty Oaks jumped out early and never looked back.  Salem was led by freshman guard Sydney Hopkins with 29 points, going 11-19 from the field.  Maggie St.Clair also had a big night scoring 16 in her first game as a Mighty Oak.  Carly Santimaw had a nice all-around game scoring 7 and collecting a team high 8 rebounds.

"Great first win on the road", said Mighty Oaks Head Coach Brian Marsh. "I am proud of this team for winnng a game against a good team in a tough enviorment."

The Mighty Oaks will host Essex County College Saturday November 18 in their home opener. This will be the first women's contest at the DuPont Fieldhouse in ten years.  Tipoff is slated for 1:00PM.
