Mighty Oaks Softball Return Home From Southern Trip

Carneys Point, NJ. – The Salem Community College women's softball team's southern trip did not get off to the start it planned.  Their first match up Southeastern Community College-Whiteville was rained out Monday March 10 and was eventually canceled again Thursday March 13 due SCCW not having enough healthy players to compete.  The Mighty Oaks did go 500 on the trip dropping their first double header to Wake Technical Community College but rebounding strongly and sweeping their second double header against Fayetteville Technical Community College.

Wake Technical Community College – Game 1

Salem battled WTCC all the way in game one dropping a heart breaker 9-8. Sophomore Callie Rozak had a multi-hit day that included a home run and 2 RBI.  Also homering for the Mighty Oaks was Ella Hayes who went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.  Jill Robinson took the loss on the mound for Salem in relief.

Wake Technical Community College – Game 2

The Mighty Oaks dropped the nightcap 11-4.  Hayes continued her hit streak going 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.  Jill Robinson pitched 5 and a third innings allowing the eleven runs with two strikeouts.

Fayetteville Technical Community College – Game 1

Salem bounced back in a big way against FTCC as their offense exploded as a team for 18 hits in the 14-3 victory.  Ella Hayes went 4 for 5 with a double, triple and 2 runs scored.  Callie Rozak hit another home run and drove in three runs for SCC.  Jocelyn Melendez went 2 for 5 with a double and also drove in 3 runs for SCC. Jill Robinson picked up the win for Salem going 5 innings while allowing only one earned run.

Fayetteville Technical Community College – Game 2

The SCC offense continued to roll in the sweep winning game two 15-3.  Bella Rappa went 3 for 5 on the game with 2 RBI. Melendez continued to hit driving in 3 runs while going 2 for 4 in the game.  Valeria Hatterer also drove in 3 runs for the Mighty Oaks while going 2 for 2 with two walks in game two.  Raegan Wilson went the distance for Salem picking up her third win on the season allowing no earned runs on the day.

 

The Mighty Oaks are now 6-2 on the season and return home to face off in a double header against Brookdale Community College Thursday March 20.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM at Watson Field in Pennsville.
