Softball Splits With Northampton

Bethlehem, PA. – The Salem Community College softball team split their double-header with Northampton Community College.  The Mighty Oaks won game one 3-2 and dropped the second game 8-6.  The Mighty Oaks remain atop of Region 19 with a 21-5 record on the season.

Game 1

In the tightly contested game Salem got off to a one run lead in the first inning. SCC added one in the fourth inning but Northampton answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the ball game at two apiece. Salem scored in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead and the game on a sacrifice fly by Vaye Savage.  Savage went 1 for 2 on the day with an RBI and a walk.  Ella Hayed continued to hit for the Mighty Oaks going 3 for 4, with a double and a run scored.  Morgan Mecham picked up the win in relief of Caitlin LaGreca.

Game 2

Salem got off to a great start scoring four runs in the first inning.  Northampton battled back scoring three in the third inning and five in the fifth inning to the lead and ballgame. Vaye Savage went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI.  Courtney Hoggard went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as well.  Caitlin LaGreca took the loss in relief of Morgan Mecham.

The Mighty Oaks return to the diamond when they face off against RCSJ-Cumberland at RCSJ. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00PM.
