Mighty Oaks Softball Make It 14 Straight

Newton, NJ. - The Salem Community College softball team upped their winning streak to 14 wins in a row when they swept their double-header versus Sussex County Community College with a game one win of 7-1 and a game two victory of 14-2.  With the win the Mighty Oaks move to 16-4 on the season.

Game 1

Game one saw the continued dominance of sophomore pitcher Morgan Mecham.  Mecham pitched another complete game striking out 10 batters. On the season Mecham has a 1.42 ERA in 54 innings pitched.  The offense saw Courtney Hoggard lead the way with 4 RBI and a home run while going 1 for 3.  Haylee Pickrell also went yard as she went 2 for 4 on the day with a home run, 2 runs scored and a RBI.  Vaye Savage went 1 for 3 with a double an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Freshman Ella Hayes continued to hit for SCC with another multi-hit game going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. 

Game 2

The offense in game two erupted early and often as sophomore Karyn Trice had a strong day at the plate going 3 for 3 with 4 RBI, 4 runs scored, a triple and 2 walks.  The Salem offense combined for 15 hits with 5 Mighty Oaks having multi-hit days.  Callie Rozak went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Faith Penn went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Savage continued her strong performance from game one going 2 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI. Rounding out the Mighty Oaks with multiple hits was Tessa Wise who went 2 for 3 with a walk and 3 runs scored.  On the mound for Salem Caitlin LaGreca picked up the win throwing a complete game with 6 strikeouts.

Head Coach Angel Rodriguez is happy with the streak and where his team is. "The team is continuing to play for each other and pick each other up," said Rodriguez.

Up next for Salem will be Mercer County Community College.  The Mighty Oaks will travel to Mercer for a double-header Tuesday April 4 with the first pitch of game one slated for 3:00PM.
