
North East, MD.- The Salem Community College softball got off to a great start upon the return from their trip south with a dominate performance over Cecil County Community College Saturday winning both games of their double-header 22-1 and 18-1. With the victories the Mighty Oaks improve to 4-4 on the season.
Game 1
Salem got off to a great start with a huge 11 run second inning and stayed in control the entire game. offensively freshman Ella Hayes had a big day going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. Also with a big day was KC Garcia who went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. On the mound for the Mighty Oaks Morgan Mecham and Jill Robinson combined for the win striking out 9 on the day while allowing 1 earned run.
Game 2
In game two the Mighty Oaks continued to play well putting up 6 early in the second inning and erupting for 11 runs in the 5th inning. Catcher Courtney Hoggard had a solid day for a very balance Salem offense going 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 6 RBI. Sophomore Emilie Hamm had a good day going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Caitlin LaGreca and Karyn Trice combined for the shut out victory for the Mighty Oaks on the mound.
Up next for Salem is a quick turn around when they host RCSJ-CUmberland in their home opener. First pitch is schedule for 12:00.
