Mighty Oaks Softball Returns

Fayettville, NC. – For the first time in a decade the softball team of Salem Community College took the field to compete at the intercollegiate level.  The Mighty Oaks softball team traveled to North Carolina to face off against the Trojans of Fayettville Technical Community College. 

Game 1
In the first half of a double header the Mighty Oaks played a strong game taking it to extra innings.  FTCC got off to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Salem battled back scoring 1 in the fourth and 1 in the sixth to force the extras. The Mighty Oaks scored 1 in the eighth inning but in the bottom half the Trojans were able to overcome the deficit and take the game scoring 2 in the inning.  For the game the Mighty Oaks were lead offensively by Haylee Pickrell who went 3 for 4 on the day with 2 RBI.  On the mound, Caitlyn LaGreca went the distance striking out 4.

Game 2
In game two the Mighty Oaks struggled to get the offense going early.  Salem was able to hold down FTCC through three but gave up 4 runs in the fourth and 3 in the sixth.  SCC fought hard scoring 3 in the sixth inning making the final 7-3, Fayettville.  Morgan Mecham went the distance on the mound and pitched a solid six innings in her collegiate debut. For the Mighty Oaks offense Haylee Pickrell drove in 2 runs and Karyn Trice went 2 for 4 on the day with one run scored. 

The Mighty Oaks are back in action when they will host Bucks County Community College in a doubleheader Thursday March 16.  The first pitch for game one will at 3:30PM at the Carneys Point Recreational Park.
