Pedricktown, NJ. – In the second straight day of competition the Salem Community College men's soccer team beat Delaware County Community College, 2-1. With the victory the Mighty Oaks clinch a birth in the Region 19 post season. Seeding will be determined based on the remaining schedule. This is the second straight year Salem will make into post season play.
"We are very happy for the boys," said Mighty Oaks Head Coach Matt Murray, "a lot of work went into this."
Francisco Neto got the scoring started for the Mighty Oaks with a header that beat the keeper with 26:37 left in the first half of play. Nicholas Perez had the assist on the goal. Neto continued his solid day on offense as Patrick Oliveira scored with 9:08 left in the half, with Neto getting the assist. The Mighty Oaks took the 2-0 lead into half.
The second half saw Salem giving up the lone goal of the day to Delaware CCC early in the second half at 35:57 left in regulation. The rest of the second was a back and forth battle that ended with the Mighty Oaks taking the match 2-1.
"We are looking to a playoff run" said Coach Murray.
The Mighty Oaks are in the midst of a grueling stretch in the schedule playing their second game is as many days and the second of four this week. Salem will take on Brookdale Community College Thursday at home with kick off at 3:30PM.
