Pedricktown, NJ – The Salem Community College men's soccer team came out victorious in a Region 19 battle versus the County College of Morris as the Mighty Oaks secured a 2-1 overtime win on Patrick Oliveira's golden goal with a little under four minutes left in the first overtime.
The Mighty Oaks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Jardel Sinclair goal with just 6:22 left before the half. Brandon Castillo had the assist. This was Sinclair's tenth goal on the season which leads the team and puts him among the scoring leaders in Region 19.
In the second half, Morris tied the match up with less than fifteen minutes left in regulation. The Mighty Oaks held and the match remained a tie at the end of regulation.
The overtime period was a back and forth through the first six minutes of the extra period of play. Oliveira broke through the Morris defense with just 3:47 left on the clock to score the golden goal. Goalkeeper Mateus Silva had the assist on the goal, his second assist in the last two games.
Salem has won six of their last seven matches as they continue to make a push for a birth in the Region 19 post season. The Mighty Oaks will travel to Ocean County College Monday October 10. Kick off will be at 4:00PM on the campus of OCC.
