New Soccer Pitch For The Mighty Oaks

New Soccer Pitch For The Mighty Oaks

Carneys Pont, NJ – It can always be said there is no place like home. For the soccer programs at Salem Community College, no words could have a truer meaning to this years Mighty Oaks soccer programs. SCC will usher in a new era for the Athletics Department when they debut their new field when the men's team will scrimmage Neumann University Tuesday August 23 at 2:00PM

Through a partnership with Oldmans Township schools, Salem CC will now have their own site for practices and matches. In preparation for the upcoming season the college started a series on renovations to the facility to bring it up to college standards.

"We are so grateful to our neighbors at Oldmans Township School and Oldmans Township for allowing us to create a college-level playing facility at the Township School site. Over the past year, we have worked very hard to create a facility that represents the standards of Salem Community College, and will compete with the facilities of our competitors in Region 19 of the NJCAA."

The Mighty Oaks played all of their home matches in 2021 at the Total Turf complex located in Pitman NJ, while they practiced on various fields at the Pennsville Youth Soccer Club complex. With the new field, all trainings and matches will now be held at a facility the Mighty Oaks can call home.

The first action on the new field took place on August 16, when the Mighty Oaks held the first training session at their new home. While there a few items that still need to be completed, the playing surface is ready to go.

"Playing every match essentially on the road and sharing training space with local youth clubs presented a challenge last season" said men's head coach Matt Murray. "We are very excited to finally have our own training ground and hope to establish a home field advantage."

Not only will the Mighty Oaks benefit from this new facility, so will the students at Oldmans Township School.

"We will be partnering with the school to provide soccer instruction for their students, educational assistance in the classrooms, and opportunities for the kids in the school to participate in our games as sideline ball chasers. We see this as an incredible opportunity to create town-gown relations, and spread the Mighty Oaks name" said Bunnell.

Be sure to come and catch a match this season. Our schedule can be found on the website of Mighty Oaks Athletics, www.sccmightyoaks.com .The field is located at 10 Freed Rd, Pedricktown NJ, 08067, just minutes from the Carneys Point campus of Salem Community College.
