Mighty Oaks Dominate in Win Over Brookdale

Salem Community College men's soccer program played host to the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues today at the Total Turf Experience in Pitman, NJ. The Mighty Oaks dominated offensively against Brookdale, averaging one goal every ten minutes of play in the 9-2 victory against the Jersey Blues. Salem has now won two straight at home advancing their record to 2-3 on the season.

The Mighty Oaks started early offensively and did not take their foot off of the pedal through the 90 minutes of play. Ricardo Castro (Cuernavaca Morelos / Penns Grove HS) started the game off for Salem, drilling the ball into the back of the net within three minutes (2:46) of the kickoff thanks to a feed by Vasco Almeida (Porto, Portugal / Externato Ribadouro). Roughly eight minutes later (10:39), Arturo Tapia-Arriaga Jr (Almoloya de Alquisiras, Mexico / Delcastle Technical HS) furthers the Mighty Oaks lead by scoring an unassisted goal , giving Salem an early 2-0 lead. Brookdale does answer with their first goal of the night on a penalty kick at the 13-minute mark to make it a one goal game, but the Mighty Oaks responded by scoring three more goals in the first half. Pedro Paulo Maia (Joao Pessoa-PB, Brazil / Colegio Motiva) scored at 19:52 assisted by Cristhian Sontay (Penns Grove, NJ / Penns Grove HS), Bruno Sant'Anna (Recife-PE, Brazil / Colegio Santa Emilia) scored at 30:00 assisted by Paulo Maia and Vasco Almeida scored at 34:00 assisted by Marcos Piao (Sao Jose Dos Campos-SP, Brazil / E.E. Major Aviador Jose Mariotto Ferreira), to put Salem up 5-1 going into the half.

 

14 minutes into the second half, Arturo Tapia-Arriaga Jr found Matheus Chamusca (Salvador, Brazil / Sarte Coc) open in the offensive zone to continue the offensive attack for the Mighty Oaks and score their fourth uncontested goal. At 69:04, Brookdale scored their second and final goal of the night while Salem continued to dominate the pitch. At 78:02, Brookdale put it in their own net to give the Mighty Oaks their seventh goal of the night putting them up, 7-2. In the closing minutes of the game Salem scored two more goals off of the feet of Alejandro Rivera (Penns Grove, NJ / Penns Grove HS) (assisted by Vasco Almeida) and Arturo Hernandez (San Felipe Torres Mochas Guanajuanto, Mexico / John Tyler HS) (assisted by Arturo Tapia-Arriaga Jr).

 

The Mighty Oaks will next be in action Thursday, April 29, when they travel to Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester to take on the Roadrunners at 4PM.
