Mighty Oaks Fall to Atlantic Cape in Doubleheader

Salem traveled to Atlantic City, NJ on Friday, March 26, for a doubleheader against the Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers. The Mighty Oaks fell in game one to the Buccaneers, 12-3, and lost game two 11-9.

Atlantic Cape took game one by a score of 12-3. Ted Moos (Berlin, NJ / Eastern HS) was responsible for two of the Mighty Oaks runs with the first coming off of a solo home run in the fifth inning and the second Moos scored off of a Jake Herner (Mount Royal, NJ / Kingsway HS), who later scored Salem's third run thanks to an Ahmad Edwards (Metter, GA / Tattnall HS) single. Justin Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) was credited with the loss for Salem.

In game two the Mighty Oaks went down 2-0 early in the game before tying the game up, 2-2, in the third thanks to a Drew Tongue (Glassboro, NJ / Glassboro HS) sacrifice fly that scores Tucker Dorrity (Ocala, Fl / Fayette County HS) and a Tyler Lashley (Cape May, NJ / Trenton Catholic HS) walk with the bases loaded to bring in Jacob Todd (Claxton, GA / Pinewood Christian Academy). Salem scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take their first lead of the game before the Buccaneers answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs of their own to tie the game at six a piece. Dorrity scores his second run of the game off of a wild pitch and another walk with the bases loaded gives the Mighty Oaks an 8-6 lead, but Atlantic Cape comes back and takes an 11-8 lead heading into the top of seventh inning. The Mighty Oaks had the tying runs on base when the Buccaneers stopped the comeback attempt to win game two of the doubleheader, 11-9. Nick Toms (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville HS) took the loss in game two, pitching four innings, allowing two runs on four hits.

The Mighty Oaks will next be in action tomorrow, March 27, when they return home for their first home baseball game since the Spring of 2014, when all athletics programs were curtailed until 2019-20, against the Sussex County Community College Skylanders, action starts at noon.
