Mighty Oaks Drop Doubleheader to RCSJ Dukes

Salem traveled to Vineland, NJ for a doubleheader against the Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) Cumberland Dukes. The Mighty Oaks lost game one to the Dukes in a 14-13 slugfest, and dropped game two to Cumberland, 9-2.

The Mighty Oaks trailed early in game one after the Dukes scored four runs in the first inning, but the offense came alive in the third for Salem to give them their first lead of the game, 5-4.  In the third inning, the Mighty Oaks put up five runs, three of which came off of a Phil Sedalis (Wenonah, NJ / Deptford Township HS) three-run homer which brought in Ted Moos (Berlin, NJ / Eastern HS) and Jacob Todd (Claxton, GA / Pinewood Christian Academy). Sedalis went deep in his next at bat with a two-run homer to extend the Mighty Oaks lead to 7-4. Cumberland took the lead back with a four spot in the bottom of the fifth, but it didn't last as Salem responded with six runs in the sixth to take a 13-8 lead. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Cumberland plated five runs to hand the Oaks a 14-13 loss.

Cumberland also took game two 9-2, Salem's two runs coming off a Nick Toms (Pennsville, NJ / Pennsville HS) solo home run in the top of the third inning and a Phil Sedalis sacrifice fly to bring in Ted Moos in the sixth inning. Starter Trey Matthews (Newark, DE / Newark Charter School) took the loss for the Mighty Oaks.
