Meet The Mighty Oaks Cross Country Coaches

Meet The Mighty Oaks Cross Country Coaches

Coach Tom Mason is a long time Salem County resident and member of the Salem County Sports hall of fame.  He is leading the return of men's and women's cross country at Salem Community College. His favorite memory as an athlete is winning the Salem County championship mile in 1973, and his favorite memory as a coach is taking the Penns Grove track team to a state championship for the third year in a row in 2015. What you may not know about Coach Mason is his passion for theater. When he's not coaching, he enjoys acting and directing stage productions, but he says he's leaving the karoke performance to Coach Tencza.

Assistant Coach Ryan Tencza is a part of the comeback of cross country, and for the record, his karoke song would be "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. When he isn't coaching the Mighty Oaks he enjoys training for races from 5k to marathons. His role model is former Rowan coach, Bill Fritz, who taught him that kindness goes a long way. If stranded on an island, Tencza would bring a folding chair, fishing rod, and a pair of running shoes.

If you are interested in joining the men's or women's cross country team reach out to Coach Mason (tmason@salemcc.edu) and Coach Tencza (rtencza@salemcc.edu) We are actively building our squads, and are looking to add to our Mighty Oaks family!
