Closely Contested Game Ends in Defeat for Salem

The SCC Mighty Oaks faced the Camden County Cougars for the second time of the 2019-20 season at home. Camden took the lead early in the first half, and kept it until a free throw from Freeman brought the Mighty Oaks in the lead 18-17. The two teams kept in a close race for much of the first half, and the Cougars went into half time leading 32-29.

SCC continued to battle into the second half. Lamar Woody made a clutch 3-point play that brought the Mighty Oaks back into contention, trailing Camden 41-40. With 12 minutes remaining they fought to tie the score 44-44. Woody battled back again, with another 3-point play, to take Salem into the lead 47-44. As the half continued, the Cougars pulled away. With 5 minutes remaining they took a 60-57 lead, and carried it to a final score of 67-62.

Lamar Woody led the Mighty Oaks in scoring with 26 points, followed by Maurice Freeman (11) and Robert Whitaker (9). Eric Neal recorded an impressive 14 assists for Salem.

Keshon Smith led CCC in scoring with 18 points, followed by Justin Ryder (14) and Christopher Roe (13).

The Mighty Oaks will play at home again on Tuesday January 21st at 6PM against the OCC Vikings.
