Impressive Comeback Falls Short at Gloucester

SEWELL, NJ

The Tuesday night 6PM tip-off at RCSJ-Gloucester began a back and forth battle between the Mighty Oaks and the Roadrunners. Gloucester eventually pulled into a comfortable lead, heading into halftime 46-34.

In the second half, the Roadrunners gained momentum expanding their lead to 19 points, but the Mighty Oaks persisted. After an 11 point run, with 10 minutes remaining, Salem brought the score within 8 points. Troy Johnson made an impressive 3-point play within the final minutes to keep the Mighty Oaks in the game. SCC had possession of the ball at the final buzzer, but was unable to sink the game winning shot. The final score was 80-79.

Leading scorer for the Mighty Oaks was Robert Whitaker with 25. Teammates Maurice Freeman (24), and Lamar Woody (21) followed closely behind. Woody recorded a triple-double for the second game in a row with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. 

Tim Schultice led scoring for the Runners with 18, followed by Jalen Benson (16), Nick Sambour (15), and Stan Martin (15). Schultice recorded 17 rebounds for Gloucester.

The Mighty Oaks will begin the first of four consecutive home games this Saturday, January 18th, at noon against the Camden County Cougars.
