ESports Coming Fall 2020

ESports Coming Fall 2020

ESports has been growing greatly in popularity over the past few years. In the fall of 2019, the NJCAA, the governing body for two-year colleges' athletics, announced its creation of NJCAA eSports. Many high schools, colleges, and universities across the country are joining the wave, and now Salem Community College is joining with NACE, the National Association for Collegiate eSports and plans to join NJCAA eSports as well.

The SCC eSports Arena has been upgraded in preparation for competitive gaming. There are 6 new PC gaming monitors, reclining chairs, two 75 inch 2K TVs, a PS4, a Nintendo Switch Dock, and an XBox 360.

Kevin Blair and Jason Burden head the group. It all started with "Wii Wednesdays" at Salem Community College, which grew by the addition of a PS4 gaming system. Jason Burden came to SCC with aspirations of beginning an eSports Club. The club started with just two people and has since grown to include over twenty participants. Blair hopes that they can expose people in the county and surrounding areas to the world of competitive gaming. He says he's "looking forward to the excitement on everyone's faces," and hopes that when people pass the updated arena they are motivated to get involved.
