Women's Basketball Finishes A Strong First Season Back

Carneys Point, NJ. – The Salem Community College women's basketball team finished an impressive first season back on the hardcourt with a 9-13 record.  The women's Mighty Oak basketball program has not competed since the athletic programs at the college were shut down after 2013-14 season.  Much success was seen after a ten year absence in the NJCAA.

Head Coach Brian Marsh led a team of first year players to a successful run that saw the Mighty Oaks in contention for a playoff spot for most of the season in the programs first year back.  Freshman guard Kathryn Laurence led the Mighty Oaks in scoring averaging 13 points per game.  Laurence shot a solid 33 percent from the three-point line for the year.  Also having a strong freshman season was guard Maggie St.Clair.  St.Clair also averaged in double figures on the season averaging 11 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. On defensive side of the game Caroline Zullo led the team averaging 6.2 rebounds a game while Carly Santimaw led the Mighty Oaks in steals and also avreagded 8 points per game.

"We are a young team that worked hard, we overcame a lot of adversity", said Head Coach Brian Marsh. "Our tenacity and team chemistry took us to 9 wins with all freshman."

It is certainly an exciting time for women's basketball at Salem Community College as Coach Marsh and his women continue to build on the success they had as a first year program.

"There are a lot of great things happening now at SCC and one of them is women's basketball", added Coach Marsh.
