Softball Makes It 18 In A Row In Dominant Fashion

Carneys Point, NJ. – The Salem Community College softball team upped their impressive winning streak to 18 games with a sweep of Bucks County Community College Sunday April 7. The Mighty Oaks took game one 10-2 and game two 11-0.  With the victories the Mighty Oaks are now 20-4 on the season.

Game 1

The Mighty Oaks jumped out to an early 2 run lead in the bottom of the first inning.  The offense added 4 in both the 4th and 5th innings to take the game.  Sophomore catcher Vaye Savage went yard for Salem going 2 for3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI to go along with the home run.  Karyn Trice was a spark plug at the top of the Mighty Oaks order setting the table for the Salem offense.  She went 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Ella Hayes continued to roll going 1 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI. Morgan Mecham pitched a complete game striking out 8.

Game 2

The Mighty Oaks offense erupted in game two scoring in every inning.  Sophomore infielder Haylee Pickrell had a solid day at the plate going 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI. Hayes continued to hit for Salem going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and 5 RBI. As a team SCC had a total of 15 hits.  Caitlin LaGreca also threw a complete game for Salem earning the shut out to go with her 5 strike outs.

With the sweep the Mighty Oaks winning streak is extended to 20 games, which is the second longest in NJCAA softball.  Salem will travel to Northampton Community College for a double-header Tuesday April 9.  First pitch of game one is schedule for 3:30 on the campus of NCC.
