Mighty Oaks Softball Return Home Ready To Battle

Carneys Point, NJ. – The Salem Community College softball team returned from their recent southern trip ready to compete.  The Mighty Oaks battled weather in their recent trip south having four games canceled due to rain.  Salem is currently 2-4 on the season.

"We played some great games against great competition, some, who were already five games into their season," said Mighty Oaks Head Coach Angel Rodriguez. "We are just starting to get in a groove as a team".

Off to a solid start of the 2024 season is sophomore Karyn Trice with a team high 467 batting average.  Newcomer Courtney Hoggard leads the Mighty Oaks with 8 hits in six games.  Vaye Savage is off to a great sophomore campaign leading SCC with 6 RBI while tying Hoggard for a team high three doubles.  On the mound Morgan Mecham picked up two shut out victories for the Mighty Oaks with a team best 2.52 ERA.

"They went out and stuck together as a team and competed," added Coach Rodriguez. "We have a lot of softball left but very excited with how our opening week went".

The Mighty Oaks return to action this weekend when they will travel to Cecil College for a Saturday doubleheader March 16th with slated game times of 12:00PM and 2:00PM.  Salem will host RCSJ-Cumberland Sunday March 17th at their new home complex located at the Pennsville softball complex.  Game times are scheduled for 12:00PM and 3:30PM Sunday.
