Region 19 & North Atlantic District B CHAMPIONS

Bethlehem, PA. – The Salem Community College men's basketball team won their first in college history Region 19 and Northeast District Championship Saturday defeating Montgomery County Community College 74-66.  They Mighty Oaks will now head to Herkimer (N.Y.) College to play in the Division III national championship tournament March 11-15. Eight district champions and four at-large bid selections will make up the field. The bracket will be announced at 3 p.m. Wednesday March 5.

The Mighty Oaks were on top most of the game led by tournament MVP Akeem Taylor who scored 27 points while pulling down 13 rebounds for the double-double.  Tamir Powell scored 19 for Salem with Xavier Brewington contributing 10.  Jyheim Spencer also had a double-double scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for the night.

Mighty Oaks head coach Mike Green was named District Coach of the Year as the coach of year in his first full year with Salem.

This is this first Region 19 championship in men's basketball history and the first of any kind since the athletics programs were brought back in 2019. Tournament brackets will be announced Wednesday March 5 via the NJCAA Network.  Please join us at the DuPont Fieldhouse to celebrate the title and find out who we face as we will broadcast the event in the fieldhouse Wednesday at 3:00PM.
