Mighty Oaks Drop Their First Game of the New Year

Mighty Oaks Drop Their First Game of the New Year

The Mighty Oaks were back in action for their first game of the new year Thursday night, where they would face off against the Middllesex Community College Colts. Salem looked to carry the momentum they found at the end of 2019, where they won 3 of their last 4 games, into 2020.

The beginning of the first half was closely contested with each team exchanging points, until Middlesex went on an 8-1 run. The Colts held their lead for the remainder of the half leading 42-38.

Middlesex came out in the second half and extended their lead to 47-38. SCC fought back to close the deficit to 6 points, trailing Middlesex 47-41 at the 17 minute mark. At the 10 minute mark, Jared Meyer sank a 3 point shot to give the Colt's a double digit lead that they would keep for the remainder of the second half. The game ended in defeat for the Mighty Oaks 81-71.

Lamar Woody recorded a double-double, leading The Mighty Oaks in scoring (25) and rebounds (10). His teammates Maurice Freeman (20) and Robert Whitaker (13) joined him in double-digit scoring. Eric Neal contributed 10 assists for Salem.

Joshua Daniels led the Colt's in scoring with 27 points, followed by his teammate Jared Meyer with 14. Andre Pulley put up 10 rebounds for Middlesex.

The Mighty Oaks will face Union County College this Saturday, January 11th. Tipoff is 2 PM.
