Double OT Battle Ends in a Loss for Salem

CARNEYS POINT NJ - SCC vs. Union County College

The Mighty Oaks hosted Union County College, returning NJCAA Region XIX championship contenders,  for the home opener of the 2019-2020 season. After the first half Salem trailed Union County college 43-35. The second half of the game had a momentum shift as Salem pressed ahead to tie the game 78-78 by the final buzzer. Both teams scored 6 points in the first overtime tying the game again at 84-84. In the second overtime, Union pulled ahead taking an 8 point lead for a final score of 98-90 defeating the Mighty Oaks. 

Leading scorer pictured, Lamar Woody, had an impressive 38 points during the 50 total minutes of game play. Woody went 18-19 at the foul line and kept the Oaks in the game. Fauntroy contributed 16 points and 6 assists for the Mighty Oaks, and Whitaker put up 14 points. 

Leading scorer for Union County was Tripp contributing 20 of the team's 98 points during the competition. Just behind Tripp was Cherry who put up 24 points for the Union Owls. 

Next, the Mighty Oaks will compete on the road Tuesday Nov 12th at 7:00 PM at Middlesex County College.
