Paramus, NJ. – The Salem Community College Mighty Oaks baseball team swept Region 19 opponent Bergen County Community in their three game series. With the wins the Mighty Oaks move to 21-17 on the season and 15-6 in Region 19 play.
Game 1
Salem hosted Bergen for game one of the series that saw SCC pitcher Jon Gambone throw a complete game picking up the win while striking out 9 in the 17-6 win. Sophomore Cole Dawson led the offense going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Angel Velez had a 5 hit game going 5 for 5 with 3 runs scored for Salem.
Game 2
The Mighty Oaks traveled to Bergen for the two game finally that saw Salem sweep the series winning game one 4-2 and game two 5-1. Matt Murphy led a strong first inning for SCC with a 3-run home run while going 2 for 3 in game one. That's all the Mighty Oaks would need as sophomore Jared Vandersteur held down Bergen going six strong innings for Salem striking out 10 picking up the win. Patrick Seitzinger came in and pitched a scoreless seventh inning picking up the save.
Game 3
The Salem pitching continued to dominate as freshman Seth McCormick held Bergen to 1 run while striking out 12 for the complete game victory. Offensively the Mighty Oaks were led by Angel Velez who went 3 for 4 on the day.
The Mighty Oaks will be back in action when they will host defending NJCAA National Champions RCSJ-Gloucester at the Treehouse for the first of a two-game set Tuesday April 22.
